Jonathan requested Dasuki to give me N100m – Says Okupe

A previous Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe, says the troubled previous National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), gave him N100m on the direction of Jonathan.

Okupe, who served as Jonathan's representative from 2012 to 2015, included that he got N10m month to month from Dasuki to pay compensations and run a week after week program on NTA.

The previous presidential assistant said this in a Facebook post on Sunday while responding to his capture and cross examination by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The EFCC had asserted that Okupe got N85m from Dasuki at various times.

In his response, Okupe said, "The underlying N50m was affirmed by the President (Goodluck Jonathan) to be paid to me from his security vote. N10m was to outfit my leased living condo and another N10m for my office. The parity N30m was affirmed as take-off award.

"The N10m I got from the ONSA month to month was to run my office, pay rates of individuals from staff, including overheads, pay costs for our various question and answer sessions, pay for distributions in daily papers, magazines, neighborhood and outside, TV projects, releases, and media experts who help and encourage our work. I had around 23 (individuals from ) staff, 11 were graduates out of which five were Master's degree holders.

"The second N50m was endorsed again by Mr. President when I answered to him that the month to month stipend had been sliced from N10m to N5m and that I was no more in a position to continue running a one-hour NTA system program called INSIGHT which was disclosed 9am to 10am each Friday.

"We paid NTA about N1.2m month to month for broadcast appointment. Two moderators were paid N600,000 month to month. The lead moderator on INSIGHT earned N400,000 and the second moderator earned N200,000. Complete N600,000.

"We paid for tapes and altering per program. Moreover, we likewise paid honorarium for visitors either specifically or in type of inn bills for those outside Abuja, or transportation.

"This expense averagely N500,000 week by week or about N2m month to month. With everything taken into account, we spent about N4m month to month on the system. Mr. President guaranteed to help with the costs.
